Option 1: Updating via the Auto-Updater
As of version 1.3.0 of the Theme Installer, you can now update your theme directly from your WHMCS admin portal. When a new update is detected, you will see an alert in multiple areas within the module. Before attempting to update your production environment, you should run the updater on a development installation first.
Head to the Theme Installer in your WHMCS admin portal to manually check for a theme update. Find the theme you wish to update and click the “Edit Settings” button. Once on the theme settings page, locate the “Update Checker” button next to the “Actions” section.
You will receive additional information on the latest version if an update is available. On this page, you can view the changelog or get started updating your theme. Click the “Get Started” button and follow the prompts to get started.
The Auto-Updater will guide you along the updating process, providing feedback. Once you’ve completed the update, you’ll be ready to use your updated theme.
If you have issues during the auto-updater process, roll back the update and update the theme manually via the method below. If you continue to have issues, please do not hesitate to open a support request.
Option 2: Manually from the Client Area
1. Download the latest version of the theme
Log into your account and navigate to the Licenses page (“My Services”> “Licenses”). You should see a list of all your theme purchases and click the download link.
2. Unzip the download to your local machine
After downloading the Theme Installer, unzip the compressed file onto your local machine. You can use many different tools to handle this, and both Windows and Macs have built-in uncompression tools. For more information on how to unzip a file, please read this tutorial on WikiHow.
3. Upload the files to your WHMCS installation
Once your ZIP file has been extracted, you can upload the theme files to your WHMCS installation. Using your favorite FTP client is the best way to do this.
In the theme folder, look for the “upload” folder. Upload the contents of this directory to the root directory of your WHMCS installation (only the contents of the “upload” directory). This will add the necessary theme files into the appropriate folders so that the Theme Installer will recognize the theme is available for installation.
4. Access the Theme Installer and update the theme
Once your upload has been completed, you will need to log in to your WHMCS admin portal and navigate to “Addons”> “SwiftModders WHMCS Theme Installer.” You should see an “Update” option next to your theme installation. If you do not see this option, make sure you have uploaded the theme folder to the correct location. If you continue to have problems, please open a support request.
Click the “Update” button, and the process will start immediately. The Theme Installer will run any necessary MySQL database changes for this update. Once completed, you will receive a notification stating the update is done. The update will also recompile your settings automatically, so you should not have to recompile them yourself.
Congratulations, the theme is now complete! If you have any issues during the installation process, please open a support request.
