We are pleased to announce that the Allure Blesta Client Theme now supports Blesta 6. Version 1.5.0 is available now, and it’s one of the more involved updates we’ve put out for Allure in a while, so we wanted to walk through what changed and why.
Blesta 6 is a major update to the platform, and this release brings Allure fully in line with it. If you’d like the full picture of what’s new in Blesta itself, Blesta’s announcement of the 6.0 release covers it in detail. Everything below is specific to what changed in Allure.
Before we get into it, there’s an important change to the update process for this release. Please read the section below before you make any changes to your live site.
You Must Update the Theme Installer First
Before updating Allure to 1.5.0, you must update your Blesta Theme Installer to version 1.3.0. The Theme Installer received its own significant rebuild for Blesta 6 compatibility, and Allure 1.5.0 depends on it.
Please note that Theme Installer 1.3.0 and Allure 1.5.0 require Blesta 6. Make sure your site is running Blesta 6 before installing either update. You can find the correct download for your current Blesta version on your account downloads page (login required).
Once you’ve confirmed you’re on Blesta 6 and the correct Theme Installer is in place and updated to 1.3.0, you’re clear to update Allure itself.
What’s New in Theme Installer 1.3.0
Theme Installer 1.3.0 got its own significant rebuild alongside Allure. The admin interface has been redesigned to sit natively inside Blesta 6’s Paradigm theme, including dark mode support, so it feels like part of Blesta rather than a plugin bolted on top.
The icon picker has also been rebuilt from the ground up to support Font Awesome 6 and 7’s expanded family and style system, pulling live from Font Awesome’s own API so it always reflects what’s available on your plan. It’s faster too, and sites without a configured Font Awesome Kit now get a bundled icon set instead of pulling from a third-party CDN. If you do use a Font Awesome Kit, the settings page now shows its connection status and license at a glance.
Beyond that, this release includes a dedicated security and stability review, PHP compatibility updates, and a handful of longstanding bug fixes.
An Updated Icon System
This is the biggest visible change in 1.5.0, and it touches nearly every page in the theme.
Bootstrap Icons are now supported. Allure now includes Bootstrap Icons right alongside its existing Font Awesome setup, so icon classes from either library render correctly no matter which one a given page or setting calls for. Font Awesome isn’t going anywhere. Allure just understands both now.
Font Awesome has been upgraded from version 5 to version 7. The fallback Font Awesome set bundled with the theme, used when a site owner hasn’t configured their own Font Awesome Kit, is now on Font Awesome Free 7.3.1. This wasn’t a simple version bump behind the scenes. Font Awesome 7 changed how icon glyphs are generated internally, which briefly broke our fallback logic for approximating Pro-style icons on the Free tier during development. That logic has been rebuilt and tested for Font Awesome 7.
The default Pro icon style has changed from Duotone to Light. If you have a paid Font Awesome subscription connected, Allure previously defaulted to the Duotone style across the client area. It now defaults to Light, which better fits the theme’s overall look and reads a bit cleaner. This update touched roughly 70 individual icon references throughout checkout, account pages, support tickets, and the knowledge base.
Menu icon behavior has been cleaned up and fixed. Allure lets you assign custom icons to navigation menu items through the Theme Installer’s Menu Icons setting. A few bugs in how that setting interacted with Blesta’s own native icons have been resolved:
- The “enable menu icons” toggle now behaves as a true on/off switch. When it’s on, only icons you’ve explicitly configured are used, and menu items without one simply show no icon. When it’s off, Blesta’s default navigation icons take over. Previously, the two sources could get mixed together on the same menu.
- Submenu items still don’t support custom icons, but this may be addressed in a future release.
As part of this fix, the underlying way Allure stores your menu icon assignments has changed, which resolves the issue where configured icons would occasionally disappear after an update. Unfortunately, this means you will need to re-assign your menu icons after updating to 1.5.0. We know that’s an inconvenience, and we’re sorry for the extra work it creates, but it was necessary to fix the problem.
Everything Else
Beyond the icon system, Allure has also been updated throughout to support the improvements Blesta 6 brought to checkout and support tickets, along with a handful of smaller compatibility fixes.
